Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Baisakhi, Vishu & Bihu: Regional New Year Gifts for April

Ugadi falls on 7 April 2027 and the solar new years follow on 14–15 April. Here's how to gift every region fairly with one base box and regional cards.

In 2027, Ugadi falls on 7 April (with Gudi Padwa expected the same day), and Baisakhi, Puthandu, Vishu, Bohag Bihu and Poila Baisakh follow on 14–15 April, all within the first fortnight of the new financial year. The short answer for multi-city teams is one shared base gift for everyone, a greeting card in each region's language, and an order started in February. Below are the dates, a city-by-city plan, eco-leaning picks, how gourmet add-ons ship and the timeline that gets boxes delivered before each festival.

April's regional new years in 2027 at a glance

According to almanac and calendar sites (days.to, dailycalendar.in, bhaktibharat.com and Dr R.P. Sharma's Baisakhi 2027 page), the 2027 dates are:

- Ugadi (Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka): Wednesday, 7 April

- Gudi Padwa (Maharashtra): expected on 7 April, because it is observed on the same lunar date as Ugadi, Chaitra Shukla Pratipada

- Baisakhi (Punjab and much of the north): Wednesday, 14 April

- Puthandu (Tamil Nadu): 14 April

- Bohag Bihu (Assam): begins 14 April and runs over several days

- Vishu (Kerala): 14 or 15 April, because sources disagree

- Poila Baisakh (West Bengal): Thursday, 15 April

The dates follow two calendars. Ugadi and Gudi Padwa follow the lunisolar calendar. Baisakhi, Puthandu, Vishu, Bohag Bihu and Poila Baisakh follow the solar new year, which begins when the Sun enters Mesha. Dr R.P. Sharma's Baisakhi 2027 page puts that moment at 3:30 PM IST on 14 April, and Poila Baisakh is observed the following day. For gifting purposes, you have two delivery deadlines, not seven.

Two cautions apply. First, these festivals are not always in April. Wikipedia notes that Ugadi fell on 19 March in 2026 and on 30 March in 2025, so check the date each year. Second, the dates above come from almanac sites, not official sources. Confirm them against your state government holiday lists and the RBI holiday page.

Why these new years coincide with your new financial year

The Indian financial year starts on 1 April. In 2027, Ugadi falls on the seventh day of the new financial year, and the solar new year arrives two weeks in. That gives HR and internal-comms teams a rare chance to combine two messages: a regional new year greeting and a company "new year, new goals" note.

This period often sits close to appraisal conversations and fresh quarterly targets. A practical gift that stays on the desk through Q1 says "good luck this year" better than a one-day sweet box.

One budget point needs attention. If you raise the purchase order in March for April delivery, ask your finance team which year's budget it should be booked against. Every Printing Labs order comes with a GST invoice, so the paperwork is straightforward either way, but the timing decision belongs to finance.

City by city: who celebrates what

A company with offices in five states can easily end up celebrating one region's new year loudly while the others get nothing. The fix is to treat the first half of April as a single "regional new year" moment and map each office to its festival and language.

Hyderabad and Bengaluru: Ugadi on 7 April

Ugadi is the new year for Telugu- and Kannada-speaking teams, and Wikipedia gives its official names in both Telugu and Kannada script. Bengaluru offices tend to be linguistically mixed, so a bilingual card (Kannada plus English) usually works better than a single language. See our local notes for corporate gifting in Hyderabad and corporate gifting in Bengaluru.

Mumbai and Pune: Gudi Padwa on 7 April

Maharashtra marks the same lunar new year as Gudi Padwa, and Marathi is written in Devanagari. Because Gudi Padwa shares a deadline with Ugadi, your western and southern offices can receive their boxes in the same shipment wave. City pages: Mumbai and Pune.

Punjab, Chandigarh and Delhi NCR: Baisakhi on 14 April

Baisakhi cards for Punjabi teams can be set in Gurmukhi. In Delhi NCR offices, where teams come from many states, an English or Hindi-plus-English card is often the safer choice.

Chennai: Puthandu on 14 April (not Pongal)

Puthandu, the Tamil New Year, is a different festival from Pongal, the January harvest festival, so don't reuse your Pongal message.

A shared base gift with regional greeting cards

The fairest structure is simple: the same gift for everyone, and a different card for each region. Every employee receives the same items, so no office feels short-changed, and each region still gets a greeting in its own language, timed to its own festival.

The card is a Greeting Card - 4"X6", digitally printed. You can send one design with regional text versions or separate artwork per festival. Either way, the gift itself needs only one set of product mockups.

For the base gift, the Office Essentials Pack is the natural fit. It combines a Bamboo Stainless Steel Water Bottle, a Natural Jute Bag, a desktop sticky-note cube, a spiral notepad with pen and a Ferrero Rocher. The materials suit a fresh-start message, and the core items get used at work every day.

The pack doesn't include a presentation box. If you want one, add the Premium Packaging Card Board Magnetic Box, branded with a sticker; as packaging, it is sold only together with other products.

If your team prefers personal accessories to desk items, the Festive Ultimate Value Pack is a good alternative. It includes a jute bag, a PU leather wallet, keychain, card holder and stationery pouch, a notepad, tealight candles, a chocolate and a greeting card. The leather pieces are laser-engraved on a steel logo plate, which keeps the branding subtle.

Eco-leaning picks for a fresh-start message

A new year is a good moment to choose gifts made from natural materials that people will reuse. These pieces work on their own or as part of a custom kit in Build Your Box.

- Natural Jute Bag: an everyday carry bag with your logo applied by DTF printing. It is light, which helps when you ship to many cities.

- Bamboo Stainless Steel Water Bottle: a steel bottle with bamboo detailing and a laser-engraved logo, and a strong single item for daily desk visibility.

- Wooden Desk Organizer with Clock and Calendar: the built-in calendar ties in neatly with the new year, and the logo is laser-engraved on wood.

Budget bands for regional new year gifts

All Printing Labs catalogue prices include standard logo branding and exclude GST. Here is how the picks above fall into budget bands at today's catalogue prices:

- Under ₹500: the Natural Jute Bag with a greeting card, or the Wooden Desk Organizer with Clock and Calendar on its own.

- ₹500–₹1,000: the Bamboo Stainless Steel Water Bottle, or a jute bag paired with the wooden organizer.

- ₹1,000–₹2,000: the Office Essentials Pack, the Festive Ultimate Value Pack, or a custom box with the jute bag, bamboo bottle, wooden organizer and a dry fruit mix.

Bulk discounts on most products are 3% at 25+ units, 5% at 50+, 7% at 100+ and 10% at 200+. Packs are priced item by item, and gourmet food items carry no bulk discount.

Gourmet add-ons: how dry fruits and chocolates ship

A new year box feels more festive with something to eat, and Panchmeva - Dry Fruits Mix is a sensible choice that works across every region. Three rules apply:

- Gourmet items are add-ons. They are sold only together with at least one other product, so they go inside a gift, not on their own. The same rule applies to candles and packaging.

- No bulk discount on gourmet. Your discount applies to the branded items in the box, not to the dry fruits or chocolate.

- They travel with the gift. Because food is packed alongside the branded items, it follows the same air or surface timeline to each address.

April can be hot in much of India. If you are shipping chocolate to warmer cities by surface, ask us whether a dry fruit mix is the better swap for those routes. For ready-made festive kits that already include dry fruits, browse our festive gifts hub.

Branding: what gets printed where

Each item is branded with its own catalogue method:

- DTF printing: jute and cotton bags, plus any apparel you add

- Laser engraving: the bamboo bottle, wooden organizer, metal pens and PU leather goods (on a steel logo plate)

- Laser or UV: steel and aluminium drinkware

- Digital printing: greeting cards and laptop stickers

- Sticker branding: the magnetic gift box and paper bags

You approve a digital mockup of every item before production starts. To see your logo on the bottle or bag before you even ask for a quote, try Mockup Studio.

Ordering timelines for 7 April and mid-April delivery

Production takes 7–10 business days after mockup approval. Delivery then takes 2–4 business days by air or 5–9 by surface. Working back from the upper end of those ranges, counting weekdays only and keeping a two-day buffer:

- Ugadi and Gudi Padwa (arrive by 5 April): approve the mockup by about 5 March for surface shipping, or about 12 March for air.

- Baisakhi, Puthandu, Vishu, Bihu and Poila Baisakh (arrive by 13 April): approve the mockup by about 15 March for surface shipping, or about 22 March for air.

These dates don't allow for public holidays in late March or the year-end rush in your own finance team, so start the quote and mockup conversation in the second half of February. The simplest plan is often one order and one shipment that reaches every office before 7 April, with the mid-April cards held by local admin until their festival. Express production is possible only on selected items, so if you are already late, ask us rather than assume it.

Frequently asked questions

When do Ugadi, Gudi Padwa and Baisakhi fall in 2027?

According to almanac sites, Ugadi falls on Wednesday, 7 April 2027, and Gudi Padwa is expected on the same day because it shares the lunar date. Baisakhi falls on Wednesday, 14 April. Confirm these dates against your state's official holiday list before you lock your plans.

Can one gift work for teams in several states?

Yes, and it is usually the fairest approach. Send everyone the same base gift, such as the Office Essentials Pack, and change only the greeting card by region. Everyone receives equal value, and each region still gets its own greeting.

Can the greeting cards be printed in regional scripts?

Tell us the scripts you need, whether Telugu, Kannada, Marathi (Devanagari), Punjabi (Gurmukhi), Tamil, Malayalam, Assamese or Bengali, and we will confirm what we can set on the digitally printed card. Have a native speaker proofread each greeting. You approve the exact text on the mockup before anything is printed.

How early should I order for 7 April delivery?

Plan to approve the mockup by early March for surface shipping or by around 12 March for air. Production takes 7–10 business days after approval, and delivery takes 2–4 business days by air or 5–9 by surface. Add a buffer for late-March holidays.

Is Vishu on 14 or 15 April 2027?

Sources disagree: one almanac says 14 April, while Calendarlabs lists 15 April.
